Back at it!

Hi everyone. It's been a couple of months since I've posted. We had some renovations going on at home as well as my PC crashing so I am trying to get things back on track so I can post more often.

I wanted to share that someone following my blog had mentioned a bit about Medicare Advantage. I actually have been on Social Security Disability since 2010 but no one really explained to me what to do with the medicare part. I received the red, white, and blue medicare card and just assumed that was all I needed. Well that wasn't the case and I let it go to the wayside since I went to the VA anyway but with the shitshow that has only gotten worse with the VA, I was more motivated that ever to get myself moving with the medicare. I happened to walk into my local Walgreens in the beginning of this past December and there was a table set up with pamphlets and whatnot along with a person. I assumed it was something to do with pushing the COVID vaccine so I just walked right past her. While I was waiting for the person I was with to checkout I looked a bit more into this table and found out it was for Medicare Advantage and it was right at the last few days of the enrollment period. Boy did I luck out. She was super sweet and set up a time to come to my house the very next day! She was shocked that I had been on medicare for so long but had never had it explained to me nor given information on choosing a network (ie. United, CDCHP, etc). The benefits I had been missing out on were tremendous, especially finding out that I get free gym membership and I had paid out of pocket for years! I also found that the doctors I have seen through community care (and love) are in network! I may have to pay a copay but it's given me piece of mind that I don't have to argue with the VA with community care approval. Will I still try and utilize community care for certain things? You bet your sweet cheeks I will! I just won't let it get to me as much as it has in the past. Well I don't know, I can't promise that I won't get irritated with the VA.

So long story short, I appreciate that another veteran mentioned Medicare Advantage and how to go about it. I want to be able to continue networking with others like this in hopes of helping each other. I have gotten a surprising amount of flack from random people that come across my blog. I know I won't make everyone happy but if I can help one veteran with any knowledge that I have or even to share their stories, then I know that it is all worth it. I tell people commenting that their VA is fantastic and they love it. I then tell them that they should never move if that is the case. I have very few good things to say about the VA and my experiences aren't just with one VA or even VA hospitals in the same state. So I have had plenty of encounters with the VA since 2000.

This is a short piece but I have at least 2 more blogs planned -1. The use of THC and the VA and 2. Benefits of 100% service connected veterans. Thank you to all of you that follow me and subscribe to my blog.

The VA and Medical Alert Systems

I had someone recently reach out to me about sharing something with everyone about medical alert systems for veterans. I personally did not know about this and it's really interesting to find out how
